This is a picture I took in Yangon during IDFC 2019. Just after we arrived in Yangon, we went to Shwedagon Pagoda for sightseeing. We walked around there while Myanmar’s participants gave us explanation about Pagoda. I had never seen such a place where everything is covered with gold. At first, I thought everything in Myanmar is totally different with Japan although Buddhist is common religion in both countries. I found many people wished in a certain place, which depends on the day of their birthday. Myanmar participants explained me that my name starts with “N“, so it concerns directly that my name includes in a Saturday born that was called “Na-Nge” Myanmar alphabet. I found I was born on Saturday, so I went to a place where Saturday born people pray. In Japan, we do not have such a special place for individuals to pray, so I was surprised. After that Myanmar’s participants took me to another place to pray. They told me to put golden paper on a Buddha.  According to their explanation, Buddha makes my head better if I put golden paper on Buddha’s head. I found there is a similar thing in Japan. For instance, when we go to a temple, we touch Buddha’s part of body which we want to make better. It is almost the same way to pray for our health. Although Japan and Myanmar have many difficulties, there are some similar things. Different countries have different cultures and habits but looking for similar things in foreign countries is interesting! When you go to foreign countries, you may find a lot of something new. Why don’t you stop by somewhere and try to find similar things to your country?

Have you found similar things to Japan when you went overseas?
